In a fresh twist, area-renown poets take the stage to perform with interpretive musicians in “The Verb Takes a Walk: Poetry Meets Music,” series. The next free thematic monthly event will be on Sunday, June 9, at the Lansing Performance Hall, 1004 Auburn Rd, Nortth Lansing from 3 to 5 PM.
Prior events have featured poets Janie Bibbie, Peaches Gillette, Brooke Lange, Daphne Sola, Adin Ljuca, Mike Finn, Gregg Weatherby, Natalie Lester, and Mark Zuss, painter Tommy Beers, and musicians HughMcElyea , Brian Wansink, Tony Lister and Chris Loy.
The series has delivered unique poetry, visual art and music collaborations in memorable ways to appreciative audiences in since June of 2023. Each month has a particular theme that artists interpret as they wish.
About the Series
The Verb Takes a Walk is a free six-performance series aimed at broadening the accessibility and appreciation of poetry and live performance to a wider range of people.
The Verb Takes a Walk: Poetry Meets Music is a fresh twist. Each of the shows in the series involves readings of diverse original poetry, often in collaboration with live musical accompaniment or interpretation.
The Verb Takes a Walk is made possible by a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts, with the support of the office of the Governor and NYS Legislature, and from Tompkins County, and it is administered by the Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County.
The Lansing Performance Hall
The Verb Takes a Walk is performed at The Lansing Performance Hall which is located in north Lansing, NY at 1004 Auburn Road (nine miles north of Triphammer Mall). Centrally located between Lansing, Groton, Ithaca, and Dryden, it was formerly the Faith Bible Fellowship Church before being purchased by the Savage Club in December 2020. Known for its excellent acoustics, the main hall seats approximately 100.
